Netflix Issues on a PS3

Print this articleNetflix began offering service on the PlayStation 3 in 2009. Since the PS3 can be connected to the Internet, creating an application to stream movies directly to the PS3 meant that PS3 users had an option to watch Netflix on their televisions. If you've downloaded the Netflix application onto your PS3, you'll find that when the application or Internet connection malfunctions, it's difficult to watch your movies. By knowing the most common issues for Netflix streaming on the PS3, you'll know what's normal and what's not when it comes to your service.

Related Searches: Poor Internet Connection

The PS3 needs an Internet connection to stream Netflix. While the 20GB model needs a cable to be connected to the Internet, the 40GB, 60GB and 80GB models can connect wirelessly as long as you have a Wi-Fi network in your home. This means your Netflix picture and streaming quality relies heavily upon the speed of your Internet connection. If your connection is slow or spotty, your PS3 won't be able to play movies as smoothly as it should.

System Updates

If you own a PS3, you're a part of the PlayStation Network. When you have a username, password and connection to the Network, you receive frequent updates that help your PS3 software to run more smoothly. Unfortunately, system updates can make it difficult to watch your movies on Netflix, since they often require you to download the Netflix application again and apply software updates before you view content. If you want to watch a movie but your PS3 requests an update, it's fine to watch your movie first before heading to "PlayStation Network" and "System Update" on the main menu.

Glitches

It's important to remember that the PS3 is essentially an Internet-connected computer and Netflix is much like a program you run on that computer. That leaves room for glitches with system updates and other problems that make it difficult for you to access and view Netflix. For instance, a February 2010 glitch blocked PS3 users from the PlayStation network and from Netflix access. While the glitch was fixed quickly, future glitches may disrupt your ability to watch movies again.

Hacking

May and June 2011 saw the complete shutdown of the PlayStation Network. Due to hackers who broke into the system and compromised credit card numbers and personal information, PlayStation shut down the Network and blocked access to Netflix until the system could be secured once again. Users could try a workaround in the first few weeks of the hacking, but then Netflix access was shut down until the PlayStation Network reopened and a Netflix update was released in June.

How to Sell an Independent Movie Theater

A detailed revenue history will be beneficial when trying to sell an independent movie theater.

Flag this photo

Selling an independent movie theater is much like selling any type of business. The goal is to prepare the business for sale, locate potential buyers and negotiate a deal. In addition to the potential of selling an independent movie theater to an independent owner, a seller could consider the option of selling the property to a chain movie theater for conversion of the existing location to a branch of its franchise.

Related Searches:Difficulty:ModerateInstructions 1

Prepare detailed financial statistics on the independent movie theater’s operating revenue. For best results, gather figures on earnings over the previous five years. Your accountant should be able to provide you with relevant business financial documentation to share with your potential buyers.

2

Construct a detailed overview of the theater’s features. This should include square footage, number of screens, seating capacity, parking availability, size and scope of refreshment stands and restrooms.

3

Create a list of everything you plan to offer as part of the sales agreement. For example, if the theater has arcade games or photo booths, will those be staying? How about projectors or refreshment machines like popcorn poppers, fountain drink dispensers and refrigerators? Provide relevant information about what comes with the property including the age and condition of equipment and supplies.

4

Itemize improvements or renovations made to the independent movie theater during the course of your ownership. For example, if you recently upgraded restroom facilities or added a state-of-the-art sound system, these are key elements to note for a potential buyer. Place a monetary value on these improvements. This will help make the property more marketable, and documenting these investments will help you offset potential capital gains on the sale of the theater.

5

List your independent movie theater for sale. You can do this through a licensed real estate agent or on your own. Advertise the sale in trade or industry publications and send notices out to competitors as well as chain theaters. Submit your listing to industry-related and business real estate sites.

6

Show the property to interested parties and be prepared to discuss issues related to revenue generation, traffic and the condition of the facilities and equipment.

7

Evaluate offers as they come in. A real estate agent or attorney can help you conduct background and credit checks on potential buyers.

8

Accept the best offer. Complete the transaction by allowing the buyer to conduct a business inspection. Select an escrow and title company to complete the financial transaction and disposition of assets.

Tips & Warnings

In pricing your theater for sale, consider the industry average of other comparable properties and what you need to get out of it financially.

How to Reduce High-Pitched Noise Post-Production in Videos

Make your video's audio track sound better with the use of post-production tools.

Flag this photo

When you've recorded a piece of video, there's almost nothing more irritating than importing it to your video editing program and finding there's a high-pitched noise or other audio interference on the track. Fortunately, after all your hard work, it's good to know you always have the option of "fixing it in post." To get the highest number of filters and options to fix your audio, you'll need to use a quality video-editing program, such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro. These instructions assume you've already imported your video to your video editor and dragged the video/audio clip to the Timeline.

Related Searches:Difficulty:ModerateInstructions Things You'll NeedFinal Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere ProSuggest EditsFinal Cut Pro1

Click the clip you want to adjust to highlight it.

2

Click "Effects" from the menu at the top of the screen, and then click "Audio Filters," and then "Low Pass."

3

Select "AULowPass" from the list of available filters.

4

View the "Filter" menu that appears. Drag the frequency slider bar to a lower number. This reduces higher-pitched sounds, while at the same time leaving lower-pitched sounds alone.

5

Preview your new audio sounds by placing your cursor over the track and pressing the "Space" bar. You will hear a beeping sound since the audio is not rendered, but you'll be able to tell if your high-pitched sound is gone.

6

Select "Sequence" from the top menu, and then select "Render All," and then "Both" to render the new effect on your Timeline.

Adobe Premiere1

Move your audio to SoundBooth -- part of Premiere -- by selecting the audio track you want to fix. Click "Edit," then "Edit in Adobe Soundbooth."

2

Highlight a portion of your audio that contains the high-pitched sound, but no other sounds.

3

Click "Processes" from the top menu, and then "Capture Noise Print."

4

Select "Use Captured Noise Print." This will remove the audio from the sample high-pitched sound.

5

Click "Preview" to hear the audio track. You can now save your audio, and the saved edits will be automatically reflected in your video Timeline in Premiere.

Effective Summarizing Techniques

Summaries must include the original text's main idea and major supporting details.

Flag this photo

The most effective summaries of written material are often compiled in steps. You must first gain a thorough understanding of the original text before attempting to summarize it. Some people might only need one technique to reach this understanding. But others, especially those who are new to writing summaries, might need to use more than one technique to gain a good understanding of the text and clearly organize their thoughts.

Related Searches: Skimming

Skim through the text you are summarizing to get a basic understanding before you do a thorough reading. The introductory paragraph typically contains the thesis, but you might need to read more to get a good grasp of the main idea. Rephrase and write this main idea in a single sentence, keeping it in mind as you continue skimming. Read the conclusion and rephrase your main idea sentence as necessary.

Highlighting and Underlining

After you obtain a good understanding of the main idea, re-read the text, underlining, circling or highlighting any phrases that support the thesis. You also should underline phrases that demonstrate the connection between major points being made. Afterward, re-read all the underlined text to gain a clearer understanding of the information in need of summarizing.

Outlining

Write an outline of the most important information in the text you are summarizing. Refer to your notes and highlights to help you along. If you must re-read the text, jot down the main idea of each paragraph in the margin of the page or on a separate sheet of paper before organizing this information into outline form. Avoid pulling direct quotes from the text for your outline. This will help you avoid plagiarizing the work.

Review and Rewrite

After going through your notes and outlines, write a rough draft of your summary. Review your draft, checking for accuracy and clarity. Your draft must have the same main idea of the original text and mention each of the major supporting points. Your summary must never read the exact same as the original article, however. Your draft must also give credit to the author and the original text. Revise this draft as necessary.

How to Find an Agent for a Movie Idea

To find an agent, you need to draft a good query letter.

Flag this photo

So you've come up with a great movie idea and now you want to get it into the right hands. Finding the right agent to help pitch your movie to producers is an important step in getting your idea onto the big screen. You need an agent that believes in your idea and is willing to work as hard as you did writing it to get it sold.

Related Searches:Difficulty:ModerateInstructions Things You'll Need"Writers Market"Suggest Edits1

Write an engaging query letter. A query letter is a one-page cover letter that tells the agent a little about you and your movie idea. An engaging query letter should include a good hook, a brief, but well thought-out, synopsis of your story and your biography.

2

Find agents that specialize in entertainment and movies. Use "Writer's Market" and the Internet as resources.

3

Research each agent. Visit each agent's website and find information on what the types of films they represent.

4

Edit your cover letter to personalize it for each agent.

5

Follow the submission guidelines set by each agent and send your query. If you want your query letter to be read, follow the submission guidelines. Some agents prefer queries sent via regular mail, while others like email.

Tips & Warnings

Share your query letter with your writer friends for feedback before sending it out.

You may receive a lot of rejections for your idea, but try not to let it discourage you.

The Most Effective Techniques to Encourage Team Members to Contribute to a Project

Supportive environments can encourage participation in a group.

Flag this photo

Organizations form teams to complete specific projects or foster ongoing improvement. The project manager or team leader has the task of managing the group to elicit the best performance from members. Encouraging team members to contribute to a group project requires the leader to use effective motivation techniques.

Related Searches: Relaxed Atmosphere

A relaxed atmosphere that encourages team members to freely speak and share their ideas is a motivating environment for the group. A productive environment for a team also includes an open discussion of member ideas and decisions based on consensus opinion. Members of the team must not harbor hidden agendas or ulterior motives. The team leader must ensure team meetings are a comfortable environment for all members of the group and stop disparaging comments among teammates.

Preferences

Team leaders can interview each member of a team to determine preferences and skills before the project begins. Understanding these preferences can help the leader assign work to members that best uses their abilities. While it may not always be possible to assign members to tasks that they enjoy, taking the skills and inclinations of the group into consideration can help create a positive team environment.

Work Assignments

The tasks assigned to team members must be clearly defined to encourage participation. Project managers must ensure all members of the group understand the expectations for completing work assignments.

Praise and Feedback

Praise can help encourage team members to participate and complete work assignments on a project. Team leaders must share the praise and success of the project from upper management. Leaders who take all the credit for the success of the team can demotivate the group and discourage future involvement. In addition, team leaders must accept criticism on behalf of the group and refrain from assigning blame.

Support

Supporting the members of a team encourages the group to participate in work assignments and the project. For example, if a member of the team is overwhelmed or experiencing difficulty with project tasks, the leader can provide assistance by assigning another member to help with the workload. Support also can include resources such as data, equipment and experts to help complete work assignments. Providing support creates an encouraging environment for team members.

What Degree Is Needed to Be a Filmmaker?

Producers and directors usually start off as assistants.

Flag this photo

Filmmakers generally are producers or directors who serve as the creative and organizing force behind film productions. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 83,500 producers and directors were employed in a variety of industries nationwide in 2008. Those working in the film and video industries comprised just over 28,000 of those 83,500. The education required to work in this field generally varies and typically is less important than the experience the aspiring producer or director brings to the table.

Related Searches: Education

No specific type of degree is required to work as a filmmaker. Many producers and directors start out their careers in the acting field, and they may have formal training through a bachelor's degree program in the fine arts. In some cases, they go on to pursue a master's degree in the same field. Producers and directors need to know their way around a film set, and these types of degree programs introduce them to a wide variety of types of training in the film and theater production fields.

Experience

Experience more than education is key to getting your foot in the door in the filmmaking industry. The BLS points out the fact that film producers generally have no specific requirements for training. Instead, they may first work as actors or in a variety of other capacities such as film editor or even writer. Many times a producer gains experience in a other occupations within the film industry before working his way up the ladder. Producers and directors often work as assistants to senior directors and producers before assuming control over productions themselves. The BLS notes that some producers obtain degrees in a field such as arts management, although this is not necessarily the norm.

Qualifications

Because there are no specific formal education requirements to work as either a producer or director, those entering the field should ensure that they can meet the other necessary qualifications that filmmakers generally are expected to have. The BLS indicates that both producers and directors should have a knack for doing their job. Talent is generally recognized as one of the keys to getting ahead in this industry. Other qualifications include some level of business acumen, creativity and professionalism. Formal training is always helpful but does not necessarily guarantee work, nor does it guarantee that the candidate will beat out another aspiring producer or director with less formal education. Instead, personal initiative and ingenuity can be integral to landing jobs.

Job Outlook

The job outlook for producers and directors appears positive. The BLS indicates that job growth in this field will occur at a rate of 11 percent from 2008 to 2018. This average rate of job growth indicates slow and steady expansion of the job market for those in the film production field. Competition for jobs tends to be fierce, however, and work can be intermittent as producers and directors move from one project to the next.

Blu-Ray Vs. Upconversion for 1080p

Use upconversion to play a standard-definition DVD at near-high-definition quality.

Flag this photo

The transition from standard DVDs to high-definition Blu-ray does not require you to purchase a Blu-ray version of every DVD you own. Most Blu-ray players offer a feature called “upconversion,” through which the player will digitally display your standard-definition DVD in near-high-definition quality. Some people may immediately notice a difference in video quality between a Blu-ray disc and an upconverted standard-definition disc, but others may not detect a difference.

Related Searches: 1080p

The term 1080p describes the resolution of a high-definition television; the full resolution is 1,920 vertical pixels by 1,080 horizontal pixels. While it is not the newest technology on the market — 3-D television claims that title — 1080p is currently the highest resolution available. It is unlikely, even in the future, that technology will evolve beyond the 1080p resolution because the human eye is incapable of distinguishing between 1080p and anything higher; technological advances instead will likely focus on other elements of the viewing experience, such as 3-D.

Blu-Ray

Blu-ray is a specific type of high-definition video disc that is designed to display at a resolution of 1080p. Additionally, many Blu-ray players feature a connection to the Internet. Blu-ray discs often capitalize on that Internet connection by offering bonus content — deleted and extended scenes, games, commentaries and more in a feature called Blu-ray Live — that you can only access through your Blu-ray player’s link to the Internet.

Upconversion

All Blu-ray players allow you to play your standard-definition DVDs, and most players offer an upconversion feature. While upconversion will not display a standard-definition DVD at 1080p, the quality is high enough that some people will not distinguish a difference between upconversion and Blu-ray. The exception is with TVs that are larger than 50 inches; larger TVs deliver greater detail in each image, making the difference between Blu-ray and upconversion more noticeable. Also, upconverted standard-definition discs do not always have access to the same bonus content that is featured on their Blu-ray counterparts.

Considerations

When purchasing a new movie, you often have a choice between a standard-definition DVD and Blu-ray disc. If the features on each are the same, you may want to save some money and purchase the standard DVD. If the Blu-ray has more desirable extras, you may wish to invest the extra money in the Blu-ray. The same factors come into play if you are considering updating titles in your current collection of standard-definition DVDs to Blu-ray.

Problems With GBC-H20L Blu-Ray

A single blu-ray disk can hold as much data as several DVDs combined.

Flag this photo

Blu-ray disks can store far more data than traditional DVDs or CDs. They can easily hold large HD movies on a single disk and vast amounts of storage that previously required multiple disks. LG's GBC-H20L blu-ray drive is a basic optical drive that reads these blu-ray disks and also reads and writes to DVDs and CDs. If you encounter any problems with your drive, they're likely due to the connections or to the disk itself.

Related Searches: Power Problems

If the drive doesn't appear to turn on at all and you can't even see a light on the front of it, the drive probably doesn't have any power. You should check the connections you made inside of the computer when you installed the drive. Each connection should be secure, and you should be careful when making a connection, since the cords only fit together one way. If you try to force any of them, you may damage the drive or connections. First turn off the computer and unplug it. Then open the computer tower, as you did when you installed the drive, and check the power connector. If you're looking at the back of the drive, the connector will be on your left. The cord attached to the drive should then connect to a power cord that leads directly to the power supply, which is the box that the computer's main power cord connects to. After you make sure that each connection is secure, close the computer and see if the drive will work when the computer is turned on again.

Functionality Problems

If the drive indicator light turns on, but you can't access any disks in the drive through Windows, the data connector may be loose. You should reset the computer first to see if that clears up the problem. If the drive is unavailable after a reset, turn off the computer and unplug it, then open up the computer tower as you did when you originally installed the drive. When you're looking at the back of the drive, the data connection is on your right. Make sure the cord is securely connected to the drive, and the other end is securely connected to the SATA connector on your motherboard. The connectors only fit one way, and they should slide in fairly smoothly, so don't force them or you may damage the drive or your computer. After checking the data cords, close the computer tower and turn on the computer to see if Windows can access the drive now.

Disk Problems

If you're having trouble reading or writing to a disk, open the disk drive and make sure the disk isn't scratched or dirty. If it's dirty, clean it with a soft cloth by wiping it from the center of the disk out. Do not use a circular motion when cleaning it. You can also use disk cleaning solution if you want. If a disk is stuck inside the drive, you may need to use the emergency eject button. As a last resort, you should try ejecting the disk and resetting the computer again. If you need to use the emergency eject feature, turn the computer off and insert a small, strong object into the hole just above the eject button on the drive. A paperclip may work for this, but you should be careful, since it may not be strong enough. When you firmly insert the object, the drive will open and the tray will partially eject. You can then carefully pull the tray all the way out.

Other Problems

Although the drive will normally work correctly right away, installing new drivers may correct problems in some cases. You must have an Internet connection to check for new drivers. To check for driver updates, click the "Start" button, then "Control Panel," followed by "System and Security" and choose "Device Manager" in the "System" section. Click the plus icon next to "DVD/CD-ROM drives" to locate the blu-ray drive. Right-click the drive and select "Update Driver Software..." and wait for Windows to look for new drivers. Follow any prompts that appear. If you've checked everything you can, but the blu-ray drive still isn't working, you can contact LG support by calling 800-243-0000 or by looking at the "Contact LG" section of lg.com/us/support/index.jsp.

My Sony PS3 Crashes During Netflix Streaming

The PlayStation 3 lets you stream Netflix movies directly to your HDTV.

Flag this photo

The PlayStation 3 advertises that it “only does everything.” Besides playing Blu-ray discs and video games, the PS3 can be set up as a media server, browse the Internet and stream movies live through Netflix. Viewing Netflix on your PS3 requires that you have an active Internet connection and the Netflix access disc or app for your PS3. Some users experience errors, including connectivity problems and freeze-ups of their PS3s, while using Netflix. Troubleshooting may resolve the problem.

Some users have reported receiving the error code “80029940” when using a Netflix access disc. To resolve this issue, check the disc for scratches or dirt, and clean the disc with a soft, damp cloth if needed. If you continue to receive this message, you may need to order a new disc from Netflix or download the Netflix app to your PS3.

Internet Connection

The PS3 requires an active Internet connection to connect to Netflix. Navigate to the “Settings” tab on the XrossMediaBar and follow the steps to select “Network Settings.” Select your wired or wireless connection from the menu and check your modem to verify connectivity to your PS3.

Try Later

High levels of Internet traffic from your area or through Netflix may cause your PS3 to experience problems when using the application. Wait a few moments and try to connect to Netflix again.

Date and Time

Netflix requires that your PS3 be updated to the most recent date. The date is automatically set each time your PS3 connects to the PlayStation Network, but can also be set manually. Select the “Settings” menu from the XMB and select “Date and Time Settings” and finally “Date and Time.” Choose the “Set Manually” option, and enter the current date and time with the “X” button on your controller.

Reinstall Netflix

If your PS3 continues to crash after launching Netflix, delete the app and reinstall it. Select the “Video” option from the XMB and select “Netflix” from the menu. Press the “Triangle” button to open the options menu, and select “Delete.” The Netflix icon will still be visible after you delete the app. Select the “Netflix” icon and choose the “Install” option.

Prepare your new Blu-ray drive by attaching the circuit board to it. Plug the wire on the bottom of the drive into the connector on the left side of the board. Next, attach the board to the bottom of the drive using the five screws that should be included.

2

Turn off the PlayStation and unplug it from the outlet. Wait about 15 minutes to ensure the residual electricity has discharged. Place the console on a table in front of you with the console's front facing you.

3

Remove the rectangular rubber bumper that covers the security screw. As you face the console, you will see it on the left side. Use a T10 Torx screwdriver to remove the single screw.

4

Slide the console's top cover to the left until you can lift it up off the console. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the seven screws along the top edge of the top half of the console case. Each screw is marked with an arrow pointing at it.

5

Grasp the rear edge of the top of the console, and lift it up and toward you to remove it. If the console has never been opened before, this might require quite of bit of force to release the metal clips that secure it.

6

Position the new drive in the drive bay on the right side of the console. Connect the data ribbon cable to the connector on the bottom of the circuit board and connect the power cable to the connector on the left side of the drive. Ensure the drive is properly aligned so the screw holes will line up when you replace the top half of the case.

7

Replace the top part of the console and gently press around the edges to seat it in place. Replace the seven screws that secure it to the console. Place the top cover onto the console and slide it to the right until it is secure.

Netflix Streaming Size

Netflix allows you to choose from hundreds of movies and TV shows for entertainment.

Flag this photo

With Netflix's "Watch Instantly" feature, you can stream videos to your computer or to any of many Netflix-compatible devices, like gaming consoles and even some TVs. The amount of data you stream depends on the capabilities of your Internet connection, but you have options to restrict it if you prefer. Although dealing with specifics about streaming rates and bandwidth usage can sometimes be confusing, estimating and configuring your data usage isn't too difficult.

Related Searches: Streaming Rate

Your "streaming rate" is how quickly you're accessing data on the Internet, and it's measured by speed, usually in increments of kilobits per second ("Kbps") and megabits per second ("Mbps"). There are 1000 kilobits in a megabit. In order to view any content on Netflix, you need to have an Internet connection of at least 500 Kbps. If your Internet connection speed is at or near 500 Kbps, the Netflix video quality will be low but watchable. If your Internet connection speed is higher, perhaps near four or five Mbps, the Netflix video quality will be superior, even reaching high-definition qualities when available. Any DSL or cable provider should be able to offer a connection of at least 500 Kbps.

Bandwidth Usage

Total bandwidth usage is the amount of data you use over time, so it's a flat number instead of measurement of speed. For instance, if your data transfer rate is 500 Kbps, then in a single second you will access a total 500 kilobits, which translates to a little over 60 kilobytes of data. Comparing streaming rates to bandwidth usage can be confusing, but the point is that if you watch low-quality Netflix videos, then every hour you'll use a total of about one-third of a gigabyte (GB), which is about 340 megabytes (MB). If you watch high-definition Netflix videos, then every hour you can use as much as 2.3GB.

Controlling Usage

If you want to restrict your data usage, you can adjust the settings at Netflix's website. This restricts both the streaming rate and the bandwidth usage. After logging in, click the "Your Account & Help" link in the top-right corner of the page; then click "Manage Video Quality" under section titled "Watching instantly on your TV or computer." Here you can select the quality you prefer: good quality, which uses about 0.3GB per hour; better quality, which uses about 0.7GB per hour; or best quality, which uses about 1GB per hour for standard-definition videos and as much as 2.3GB per hour for high-definition videos.

Estimating Usage

If your Internet service provider lets you view data usage at its website, then you should use their information, since it will be more accurate than an estimate. If you want to calculate Netflix data usage after you've selected a preferred video quality, log into Netflix on a computer and click the "Your Account & Help" link in the top-right corner of the page. Then click "See all instant watching activity" for a list of all recently viewed content. Add up the hours of viewing time and multiply that by the maximum data rate for the video quality you selected. For instance, if you watched 5 hours at 0.3GB per hour ("good quality"), then you've used approximately 1.5GB of data.

How to Hook up a Blu-Ray to Your Desktop

Print this articleIf you have a Blu-Ray player and want to watch videos through your computer monitor, you must use a capture device. Capture devices plug into the USB port or the PCI slots on your computer. You can play Blu-Ray through composite, component or HDMI, but HDMI connections block recordings of copy-protected discs using High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection encryption. Not all capture devices use all formats, so make sure the one you choose supports the connection you want.

Related Searches:Difficulty:ModerateInstructions Things You'll NeedVideo capture deviceSuggest Edits1

Connect your video capture device to your computer. USB devices simply plug into an open USB slot. PCI cards plug into the PCI slots on your motherboard. Refer to your computer's documentation for instructions on how to open the case and install PCI cards.

2

Install the software that came with your capture device. Refer to the documentation for instructions.

3

Determine what type of connection you want to use. HDMI gives the best picture quality and is the only method that can play video in 1080p, but you cannot record copy-protected materials. You can capture copy-protected video using component or composite connections. Component video can transmit in 1080i and 720p. Composite is limited to 480i.

4

Plug the cables from your Blu-Ray player into the input ports on your capture device. HDMI has one cable for both audio and video. Component and composite use separate cables. The jacks and connectors are color-coded. Plug the connection into the corresponding colored jack.

Tips & Warnings

To play Blu-Ray discs with HDMI, your video card and monitor must support HDCP copy protection. Other connections do not require HDCP support.

Can You Separate a Netflix Instant Queue Into Categories?

Print this articleNetflix offers a DVD and online streaming service to customers. You can add streaming movies you are interested in viewing to your Instant Queue. By separating your queue into categories, you can potentially find videos you are interested in viewing more quickly.

Related Searches: Instant Queue

Netflix streaming customers can choose from an online library consisting of movies and television shows. You can add videos that you want to view at a later time to your Instant Queue. The queue is accessible from any device on which you view Netflix content. You can add as many videos to your queue as you want. When you find a movie you want to watch later, click “Add to Instant” and it will appear in your Instant Queue.

Separating Queue

If you want to separate the Instant Queue, you have limited options for doing so. Although the queue cannot be separated based on users, you can divide the list up based on categories. When you separate the queue, a separator or divider is not displayed. Instead, the movies remain in the original list, but in the order you chose. Movies in the queue do not have to be viewed in a specific order.

Rearranging Queue

You can rearrange your Instant Queue based on several factors, such as genre and star rating. The top of the queue displays headers to help you keep the movies organized. You can use the headers to determine how you want to group the movies. For instance, you can opt to move all of the horror movies together. Move a movie's position by clicking “Update Instant Queue” and the movie will move to the position indicated. You may need to rearrange the list several times to group the moves in the desired order.

Recently Watched

When you watch a movie in your Instant Queue, it is moved to the Recently Watched section. The section is the only category that is set apart in the queue. The videos remain in the Instant Queue until you remove them, but the last three viewed videos are displayed in the Recently Watched category. The dates of the last viewed videos are displayed next to each so that you can keep track of when each movie was watched.

Die Hard is the movie franchise that made a movie star out of TV star Bruce Willis, and created an entire action-movie genre of its own. In the original 1988 film, Willis plays wisecracking New York cop John McClane, who arrives at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles to meet up with his estranged wife, Holly (Bonny Bedelia), at her office Christmas party. As luck would have it, the company ends up in the middle of a terrorist plot led by Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) and his gang of expert killers, and with little help coming from outside, McClane has to pick off his enemies one by one.

How to Film Anti-Gravity Movie Scenes

Some performance stages have the equipment necessary to duplicate zero gravity.

Flag this photo

Film making can turn into a difficult venture when working on a budget. You don't have a big Hollywood budget to create special effects with computer-generated graphics or by renting expensive equipment. Thus, when making complex segments such as an anti-gravity space scene, you must use a little ingenuity and resourcefulness to get the job done. Use the wire harness wench system at a nearby performing arts theater to duplicate weightlessness. This saves you time and money researching and renting expensive equipment.

Related Searches:Difficulty:Moderately ChallengingInstructions Things You'll NeedPerformance theaterWinchWire harnessSuggest Edits1

Call the local performance theaters around your area to determine the type of wire harness winches they have available. Several different types of winches exist, each with its own movement capabilities. Fixed-point winches allow actors to swing back and forth at a fixed point. A traveling winch moves back and forth, allowing an actor to float in a straight line. Traveling bridge winch systems add a side-to-side movement to the traveling winch system. Find the winch system that best fits the needs for your anti-gravity scene.

2

Schedule an appointment with the performance theater to rent out the stage for a set period of time. Use this time to ask about prices, safety concerns, if you can hire their technician to help maneuver the harness system, what equipment comes with the rental, and anything else that comes to mind.

3

Set up the stage with your props to create the desired background for your scene. Since the stage has limited space, you want to strategically place your props around so everything can fit within the camera's view. Also make note of what angles do not work for filming since some items, such as the ceiling and curtains, may enter the camera's view and ruin the illusion.

4

Return to the theater at your scheduled time, set up the props and start filming. Try to film angles that hide the harness wire to create the most realistic anti-gravity scene possible. You can also use post-production computer-editing programs to alter the light in order to hide the harness wire better.

Hot Six (Stephanie Plum, No. 6)

Hot Six (Stephanie Plum, No. 6)Never mind who did the deed with New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum at the end of High Five. Five months later, that night's only a dim, cherished memory, and Stephanie's freezing her butt off on a Trenton bridge trying to keep her friend Carol--caught shoplifting some crotchless panties she was too embarrassed to buy--from committing suicide.
Truth is, I didn't for a minute think she'd jump. For one thing, she was wearing a four-hundred-dollar jacket from Wilson Leather. You just don't jump off a bridge in a four-hundred-dollar jacket. It isn't done. The jacket would get ruined. Carol was from the Chambersburg section of Trenton, just like me, and in the Burg you gave the jacket to your sister, then you jumped off the bridge.
When Stephanie finally talks Carol down and makes it in to work at Vincent Plum Bail Bonds, it's only to find that her libido-boosting pal Ranger, the professional bounty hunter and sometime hit man, has disappeared. A building owned by black-market arms dealer Alexander Ramos has burned down, with Ramos's son Homer lying inside, dead from a gunshot wound. Ranger, who was caught on film there by video cameras, is wanted for questioning. Stephanie's boss Vinnie wants her to find him, but Stephanie, who knows she won't find Ranger if he doesn't want to be found, refuses. Soon everyone, from her cop boyfriend Joe Morelli to the two Laurel and Hardy wannabes who suddenly start following her around Trenton in a badass black Lincoln, thinks she's hot on Ranger's trail.

And Stephanie's got other things to worry about. For one thing, Grandma Mazur's moved in with her, and so has Bob, a golden retriever who's only partly house trained. Then Ranger starts popping up at odd times of the night, with instructions for Stephanie to keep an eye on another Ramos son, Hannibal. Add to that one homicidal maniac, a couple more dead bodies, Stephanie's usual bad car karma, and the zit from hell, and you've got yourself one fine Stephanie Plum adventure. Will Stephanie triumph? You can bet a jelly doughnut on it. And there's another great cliffhanger waiting at the end. --Barrie Trinkle

I Need to Burn a Blu-ray from 16mm Film

Bring that 16mm film into the digital realm.

Flag this photo

Maybe you've just wrapped post-production on your latest independent short and can't wait to submit it to film festivals. Maybe you've stumbled upon a box of 16mm home movies you hope will shed new light on your family history. Whatever your reason for doing it, transferring from analog 16mm film to digital Blu-ray requires both equipment and skill. The method you use will depend on the equipment at hand, your budget for the project and your intended audience.

Related Searches: Cleaning Film

Clean the print thoroughly with alcohol and cotton. If you have a work print on your hands, tug on all splice points to ensure their stability. If any cut seems damaged or weak, remove the tape and redo the splice. If your print has great value and you've never cleaned film, send it out to an experienced editor or film archivist familiar with the process.

Film Chain Transfers

If you have a working 16mm projector and a digital video camera, you can make a basic film-chain transfer. Aim the projector at the clean white wall and record the projection with the digital video camera. Though film-chain transfers can look a bit rough around the edges, the results may suffice for your needs. Even if you have a budget for a professional transfer, consider using a film chain for aesthetic reasons if you want the digital version of your transfer to look vintage, grainy, ethereal or intentionally amateur.

Telecine Transfers

A telecine involves digital capture of analog film on a frame-by-frame basis and results in the highest-quality transfer of your original 16mm print. Hire a telecine house to handle your transfer if you are working with sensitive archival footage, film restoration projects or independent films intended for a festival audience.

Transferring Sound

If the 16mm film in question is original and not archival, talk to the person who engineered your mix and ask for a digital master you can combine with your transfer during Blu-ray authoring. If you have an archival print with an optical stripe, you will need to consult a professional telecine house with the ability to play back, capture and touch up optical sound. If you have mag sound, any post-production house, mastering house or recording studio with the equipment to play back and transfer mag reels can handle the job. If you have a limited budget, shop around. You may find it cheaper to have different facilities handle the telecine and the sound transfer.

Blu-ray Authoring

Most contemporary operating systems come standard with Blu-ray authoring software. If your computer has a Blu-ray drive, you may want take your digitized film and burn a disc at home to save money. On the other hand, some telecine houses can burn a transfer to Blu-ray at no extra charge. If you've never authored a Blu-ray and did not use a telecine house, consider uploading your assets to a free file host and then using Web-based classifieds like Craigslist, Elance or Get-A-Freelancer to find someone who can do the authoring for you at a discounted rate.

User Guide for the Magnavox Blu-Ray NB530MGX

Print this articleReleased in 2009, the NB530MGX is a black Blu-ray Disc player from U.S.-based consumer electronics company Magnavox. No longer in production at the time of publication, the NB530MGX features support of up to 1,920 by 1,080 pixels in display resolution, BONUSVIEW for advanced picture-in-picture viewing and 24-frames-per-second performance for film-like picture quality. Included in the box is an owner's manual for instructions on using the Blu-ray player.

Related Searches: Connectivity

The NB530MGX connects to a television in one of three ways: one digital and two analog. Using the High-Definition Multimedia Interface port to hook up the Blu-ray player combines digital audio and video signals. A connection using the three-pronged component video and two-pronged stereo audio RCA connectors transmits analog signals, although it supports the same 1,920-by-1,080-pixel resolution as the HDMI. The least advanced of the three connection options, the analog-based component video and stereo audio RCA connection, can only produce up to a 640-by-480-pixel resolution.

Playback

The Magnavox NB530MGX is chiefly used to play Blu-ray Discs, but also accommodates music CDs, DVDs and Kodak Picture CDs. Optical discs are inserted into the disc tray at the front of the unit. Also at the front is a slot for inserting a secure digital memory card and playing pictures using the JPEG format.

Functions

Playback on the Magnavox NB530MGX Blu-ray Disc player starts automatically upon inserting the media; if not, you can press the PLAY button on the supplied remote control. Other remote buttons or functions include “Pause,” “Stop,” “Rewind,” “Fast Forward,” “Standby-On” for switching the disc player on or off, and “Open/Close” for the disc tray. Users can also set the resolution and picture size, adjust home theater system settings, and choose the language for the audio and subtitles, among other manual settings.

Troubleshooting

If your NB530MGX doesn't have power, the AC cord that comes with it may not have a proper connection. If that isn't an issue, you can unplug the cord, wait for up to 10 seconds, then re-plug it. If the unit won't play an optical disc, your troubleshooting options range from cleaning the disc to confirming its compatibility with the player. Other issues covered in the user manual include no sound or picture, no response to the remote control and lack of automatic playback.

My Sony PS3 Freezes While Streaming Netflix

The Netflix application can be accessed in the "TV/Video Services" section of the XMB.

Flag this photo

The Netflix application lets PlayStation 3 owners stream movies and television shows directly to their television through their PS3 system. Since this content is streamed over the Internet, you may run into freezing issues from time to time while streaming Netflix. A number of factors may cause these freezing issues, each of which can be addressed rather easily.

Related Searches: Internet Lag

One of the factors that may cause the Netflix application to freeze is the quality of your Internet connection. If you have multiple devices connected to your network, or if you are running a bandwidth-intensive application on a device connected to your network, your Internet connection may be overloaded, thus causing the streaming issues. Also, if you have your PS3 connected to the Internet via a wireless connection, you may experience similar issues. For the best results, disconnect any other devices from your network and connect your PS3 to the Internet via a wired connection.

Buffering

When a video streams over the Internet, that video must buffer in order to play without interruption. If the video you are streaming has not buffered completely, the video may freeze and jump as it attempts to load. To fix this issue, press the "X" button on the PS3's controller to pause the video. Wait several minutes for the video to buffer and press the "X" button a second time to begin playing the video. If the video has buffered, it will play without freezing.

Application Issues

Sometimes, the Netflix application on your system may experience issues that lead to freezing while streaming. Generally, when this happens, you cannot play, rewind or fast forward the video being streamed. You can take several steps to fix the issue if you think the application is to blame. First, press the "Square" button to return to the application's main menu. Then, select the video that you want to play to begin streaming. If you still experience issues, press the "PS Home" button on the controller and select the "Quit Game" option to quit the application. If, upon restarting Netflix you still experience issues, restart the entire PS3 system.

Netflix Issues

Other times, the issue may have nothing to do with your Internet connection, buffer status or Netflix application. Instead, the issue may lie on Netflix's end. While there is nothing that you can do if Netflix is responsible for the issue, you can call its support number to find out what is going on. The Netflix customer service number is 1 (888) 811-1933, and help is available around the clock.
