How to Import Blu-Ray Titles

Importing Blu-Ray titles to your computer is an easy process, as long as the discs are not copyright-protected. Among the many conversion programs to choose from, you may want to try ones available for free trials like DVDFab Blu-Ray Ripper, iToolSoft Blu-ray Ripper or BestHD Blu-ray DVD Ripper. All support converting Blu-Ray movies to various formats and more manageable sizes, as Blu-Rays are generally 50Gbs in size.

Visit DVDFab Blu-Ray Ripper's home page, click the "Download" button in the middle of the screen and wait for your free trial version to finish downloading. Double-click the ".exe" program file and follow the on-screen instructions for installing the software on your computer. Agree to the licensing terms and launch DVDFab Blu-Ray Ripper.

Insert your Blu-Ray disc into the proper slot on your computer and wait for Windows to recognize the disc. Exit out of any pop-up Windows Explorer prompts.

Click the "Blu-Ray Ripper" drop-down tab on the left side of DVDFab Blu-Ray Ripper. Press the "Source" drop-down box at the top of the screen and select the main video folder in your Blu-Ray's folder contents. Wait for the disc's titles to load in the Title list in the middle of the screen. Click the longest title in the list (usually the feature film) so a check mark appears.

Choose one of the output preset options under the "Blu-Ray Ripper" tab on the left-hand side of the screen. Options include MKV, MP4, iPod, AVI, M2TS for preserving true high-definition quality and more.

Click the "Profile" drop-down box near the bottom of the screen to choose a more detailed output option, depending on your needs (see Tips). Choose more advanced settings like quality encoding, resolution and bit rates, if needed, by clicking the "Edit" button to the right of the Profile box. Click "OK" to save your changes and return to the main program screen.

Click the "Target" box at the top of the screen to choose a save destination on your hard drive for your converted movie and press "Start" in the lower-right corner of the screen to begin the conversion.

Open your Internet browser and navigate to the download page for iToolSoft Blu-ray Ripper. Click the "Download" button for a free trial download or "Buy Now" to purchase the full version software. Run the ".exe" setup file when download is complete and follow the on-screen installation prompts. Accept the program's terms of use and open iToolSoft Blu-ray Ripper.

Insert your Blu-Ray into your computer's Blu-Ray drive. Click the "Add" button in the top-left corner of iToolSoft Blu-ray Ripper's main screen and double-click the disc's main video folder in the pop-up search screen. Let your Blu-Ray load in iToolSoft Blu-ray Ripper.

Click the "Profile" drop-down box and choose an output conversion format, depending on your needs. Output options include high and standard definition MPGs, MOVs, MP4s and formats for electronic devices like iPods, iPhones, Blackberry, XBox and more.

Click the "Browse" button next to the "Destination" box at the bottom of the screen and choose a folder or hard drive location to save your converted Blu-Ray. Press the large "Start" button in the bottom-right corner of iToolSoft Blu-ray Ripper's main screen to begin conversion.

Navigate to BestHD Blu-ray DVD Ripper's home page in your Web browser and click the "Download Now" tab near the top of the screen. Wait for your free trial version to download to your computer. Double-click the program setup file to begin installing BestHD Blu-ray DVD Ripper to your hard drive. Follow the on-screen prompts, agree to the licensing terms and open the program.

Load your Blu-Ray disc into your computer's Blu-Ray drive. Click the "Add Blu-Ray" button in the top-left corner of the screen and wait for your disc to load in BestHD Blu-ray DVD Ripper.

Press the "Profile" drop-down menu near the bottom of the screen to select a general output format. Options include high-definition AVIs, MPEGs, MOVs, WMVs and more. Set other advanced parameters like bit rate and resolution by clicking the "Settings" button at the top of the screen (see Tips).

Click the "Audio" drop-down box and choose an audio format from the list of compatible options. Available options may be different depending on the previously chosen Profile. Click the "Settings" button at the top of the screen to adjust audio quality settings, if needed.

Press the "Start" button in the bottom-right corner of BestHD Blu-ray DVD Ripper's main screen to begin the Blu-Ray conversion process.

Tips & Warnings

If converting for a certain program or device, check your user manual prior to downloading software and creating advanced settings to your output.

For best results, make sure you have several Gbs of free hard drive space to save files to. Depending on your output format, video may be very large in size.

Depending on the disc, Blu-Ray movies can be as large as 25Gb to 50Gb in size. Allow several hours for your Blu-Ray to convert and compress to the proper format.
